It’s a Sweet Time for Cub Scout Pack 613

Cub Scout pack 613 Weblos den and their families spent a day maple sugaring at the Tenafly Nature Center. The scouts learned about the history of syrup making and how technology changed the way syrup was gathered throughout the centuries in North America. The scouts observed both Native American and Colonial syrup-making techniques. They checked the nature center’s tapped tree and even had turns drilling a hole in a tree stump. Then they observed how sap is boiled down to make fresh maple syrup. Finally, the scouts had a blind taste test to see if they could distinguish between store-bought syrup (that has no maple syrup) or pure maple syrup. Maple syrup won hands down!
