Jewish Organizations Plan Annual Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Conference

On Sunday, March 26, the entire community is invited to the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades to attend a conference entitled “Keys to Support.” This important gathering will provide valuable information about critical issues that many families of individuals with disabilities face in achieving inclusive and accessible lives for their family members.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration for the conference is preferred and is free of charge and open to the public.

Families and people caring for individuals with disabilities are confronting significant changes to state regulations and procedures. The conference will feature breakout sessions with information to help navigate the state system and to access the services they need. Topics will include how DDD plans on working with families/service recipients in their QA/QI role, impending fee for service and accessing services through support coordination, school-to-adult transition, employment for individuals with disabilities and housing opportunities. Service professionals and coordination organizations will be on site in the designated exhibitor area to offer practical advice, community support and other information.

A highlight of the day-long conference will be the screening of the critically acclaimed film, “My Hero Brother,” which tells the story of a group of remarkable young people with Down Syndrome who embark on a demanding trip through the Indian Himalayas, accompanied by their brothers and sisters.

The conference is being organized by the Jewish Association for Developmental Disabilities (J-ADD), JCCOTP, Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey, Jewish Family Service of Clifton-Passaic, Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey and Sinai, with many additional local community organizations participating.

To register for the conference, or if any other organizations still wish to participate as a vendor, please contact [email protected] for more information.

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is located at 411 E. Clinton Avenue, Tenafly.
