Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County Will Honor Community Leaders

The Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County (SSDS) will honor outstanding champions of Jewish education at its 43rd Annual Community Celebration, to be held on Sunday, April 2, at the Hilton Pearl River. The event begins at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the evening support Schechter’s cutting-edge curriculum and tuition assistance for students in need.

Honorees Jody and David Perla and Rhonda and Richard Kahn all embody Schechter’s mission of educating children to be independent thinkers and compassionate adults who will contribute to the Jewish and greater global communities.

Following the example set by their families, Schechter parents Jody and David Perla are committed to the continued growth of a strong Jewish day school community as well as to building Jewish communities and institutions in Israel and here in the United States. They have taken on leadership roles in numerous organizations over the past decades, including the Schechter Day School Network, Camp Ramah in the Berkshires and Leket Israel. David has served on the Schechter board of trustees since 2012. They are active members of Kehilat Kesher—The Community Synagogue of Tenafly and Englewood. Jody and David are the proud parents of Alex (4th Grade), Molly (2nd Grade) and Robbie (Pre-K).

Rhonda and Richard Kahn are active alumni parents at Schechter. They have been involved with Schechter since its days in the Teaneck Jewish Center and have both proudly served on the school’s board of directors. They are longtime members of Congregation Beth Sholom in Teaneck, and Richard also serves as secretary of the Masorti Foundation for Conservative Judaism in Israel. He is co-managing partner in the law firm Winne, Banta, Basralian & Kahn, and Rhonda is Communications Director of Women’s League for Conservative Judaism. They are the proud parents of Zachary (’92) and Jordana Kahn, Rebecca Kahn (’95) and Ilana (’98) and Paul Rosenberg, and grandparents of Ellis, Sebastian and Simon.

The evening will be chaired by Sarah and Robert Goodman, Arielle and Yoni Saposh and Harley and Eli Ungar.

Tickets for the evening are $180 per person. Tickets can be purchased online at ssdsbergen.ejoinme.org/celebration.
