NORPAC Hosts Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) in Teaneck

Dr. Robert and Sarah Goodman hosted a brunch event for Senator Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) at their home in Teaneck. Senator Cardin is the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, having taken over from Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) in 2015.

Cardin was one of four members of his party in the Senate to vote against the Iran deal (JCPOA) in 2015. In March, he co-introduced, along with Sen. Portman (R-OH), the bipartisan Israel Anti-Boycott Act, legislation to further combat the anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement. The bill would formally state Congress’s opposition to the UN Human Rights Council resolutions to create a “blacklist” boycott of Israeli companies and products. The legislation would also ensure that the Export Import Bank considers BDS issues when evaluating potential credit applications.

During the event, Cardin discussed his background growing up Jewish and defending Israel in his Baltimore community as a Maryland House Delegate. He also talked about his work fighting the BDS movement on Maryland college campuses and the need for pro-Israel groups to stress bipartisan support for Israel in DC.

Ben Cardin will be running for re-election in 2018.
