Amit Shabbat Summer Afternoon Tea Will Commemorate Anita Scharf, z”l

Teaneck—The AMIT Hindy Weinstock-Geula Chapter is hosting a summer afternoon tea in memory of Anita Scharf, z”l, on Saturday, July 29, at 5 p.m.

The event, which falls a few days before Tisha B’Av, features guest speaker Tikvah Wiener, head of the I.D.E.A. School Network, who will give a lecture on “Imagining Grief: Preparing for Tisha B’Av.”

“While I was growing up in the Bronx, my mother, Anita Scharf, z”l, was very dedicated to AMIT (then known as Mizrachi Women),” said Donna Hoenig. “Her dedication to Israel through her involvement with AMIT taught me the importance of raising funds to help children in Israel. It is an honor that the memory of my mother is perpetuated through this annual memorial shiur.”

Tikvah Wiener is passionate about making learning relevant and meaningful for students and igniting their creativity and curiosity. She is co-founder and director of the I.D.E.A. Schools Network, which helps schools implement project-based learning (PBL). Since the network was founded three years ago, Tikvah, her co-founder Dr. Eliezer Jones and the I.D.E.A. School team have worked with close to 1,000 teachers, training them in PBL and educational and school change. Now, Tikvah is opening a school based on the design principles and educational innovations the network has been practicing and teaching. The Idea School, a co-ed modern Orthodox high school, will open in Bergen County in the 2018-19 school year.

As a Jewish educator, Wiener’s experience and insight fit well with the mission of AMIT to provide cutting-edge education, often through collaborative projects, to children throughout Israel, many of whom live in the periphery and come from disadvantaged homes.

The summer afternoon tea will take place at a private home in Teaneck. To register, please go to www.amitchildren.org/geulachaptertea.
