Cong. Darchei Noam to Host Allan Brauner on Shabbat Chazon

Allan Brauner will address Congregation Darchei Noam this Shabbat, Shabbat Chazon, July 29, following Kiddush. He will speak about his research into the destinies of 227 girls who worked with his mother in Auschwitz sewing German army uniforms.

Brauner first discovered the girls’ names on a document he uncovered at the U.S. Holocaust Museum. He strives to share the girls’ stories so that they will not be forgotten. The presentation will recount these girls’ journeys: from their homes to their shared experiences at Auschwitz to the Death March and, finally, to their liberation and the building of their lives or, tragically, to their deaths.

His research took many years and required extensive travel in the United States, Germany and Israel. His sources included, among others, the U.S. Holocaust Museum, Ancestry.com, the German Holocaust Archive in Bad Arolsen, YIVO, the U.S. National Archives (NYC), The Spielberg Shoah Foundation, Wikipedia, Obituaries, Google and interviews with some of the people on the list. Articles about his research have appeared in publications including The Jerusalem Post.
