$150,000 Raised for Scholarship Funds at JEC Golf Outing

Scores of JEC families will benefit from the $150,000 raised through the school’s first annual golf outing on July 11.

The event, held at the prestigious Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains, drew 100 golfers who represented the breadth of the JEC’s alumni base, feeder and supporting communities, business interests and friends.

The weather was perfect, sunny with just the right amount of breeze to make for a beautiful day on the course. The day commenced with a breakfast spread sponsored by Lawrence Diener, followed by warm-ups at the driving range and a lavish kiddush, complete with cholent, kishke, potato kugel and assorted herring generously sponsored by event caterer Reuben’s Glatt Spot.

A shotgun start had the golfers in carts, sponsored by Ariel Property Advisors, take to their various holes, and participants were treated to a beautiful course of 18-hole championship golf, an unending supply of ice cold drinks and assorted beers, courtesy of the Kahane family, and a delectable BBQ station on the green, sponsored by Online Computers, that included a wide variety of grilled meats and other BBQ favorites.

Counted among the golfers were a foursome of RTMA graduates, who took second place in the tournament, as well as such renowned personalities as Rabbi Yakov Horowitz of Project Y.E.S., as well as numerous business personalities and donors.

The day wound down with scores of additional JEC parents and supporters joining for a celebratory cocktail and sushi hour in the country club, sponsored by Rosenberg & Estis, P.C. and was followed by a gala dinner buffet with carving stations, a stunning salad bar and numerous hot options generously sponsored by Joseph Rozehzadeh and Verona Dental Associates.

Board member and parent Brian Ness, who co-chaired the event with fellow parent Jeff Kimmel, emceed the program during the dinner portion of the evening and said, “Today was a wonderful day is so many respects. Alumni, parents, donors, friends and many volunteers all contributed to a fun day of golf, sun, great food and camaraderie benefiting the Scholarship Fund of all three divisions.”

$75,000 of the money was raised by major JEC benefactor Danny Kahane, who pledged to match up to that sum, which was achieved through the outing that day.

Indeed, all funds raised through the golf outing will benefit the JEC’s three divisions: Yeshiva of Elizabeth Early Childhood and Elementary School, Rav Teitz Mesivta Academy Middle and High School, and Bruriah Junior and High School for Girls.

Other generous sponsors included Gold-level sponsors Arielle and Brian Ness, Silver sponsors Rubin & Dombeck Attorneys at Law, Corporate sponsors the Rothenberg Law Group, Close to the Pin and Driving Range Sponsors Ilana and David Adams, Tee sponsors Jeffrey Kimmel Law Office, Allan Chall and Paul and Tita Celler, Long Drive sponsors Ari and Hinda Landa and family, Raffl e Sponsors Yarden Inc., Mike’s Bistro and Montefi ore Winery, General sponsor Selwyn Karp and family, Harry Stadler and family and Marvin Rosenzweig and family.

“Stay tuned for a save-the-date for our 2017 golf outing,” said Ness at the program’s conclusion. “This is just the beginning, and with a tremendous success like this, there will be a second annual event for sure.”
