Engagement of Deena Buechler and Henry Bernstein

Deena Buechler, of West Orange, New Jersey, and Henry Bernstein, of Woodmere, New York, are engaged and planning an April 2017 wedding.

Deena, daughter of Bruce and Debbie Buechler of West Orange, is a graduate of Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School, Machon Maayan Seminary in Israel and Binghamton University. She is the manager of Chocolate Works of Livingston, which is under the supervision of the VAAD of MetroWest.

Henry, son of Mark and Felicia Bernstein of Woodmere, graduated from HAFTR, Yeshivat Reishit in Israel and Queens College. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in biomedical engineering at City College of New York.

Deena and Henry, who have been dating for several years, had a truly magical engagement. It all began when Henry told Deena one night that he was picking her up from work to play a game. When he arrived, he handed her an envelope with the number “1” written on it. Inside, on a piece of paper, were the words “Tonight something special I have planned for you, it starts with this paper, it’s your first clue.” The couple went on a scavenger hunt at the mall, and the last clue sent them to pick up a sweatshirt with Minnie Mouse on the front and a clue on back that read “The clues are a puzzle, hurry up, we need to get back. The game continues tomorrow, we need time to pack.” A few hours later found the couple flying to Orlando.

Henry and Deena spent the day at Animal Kingdom. On day two, they donned Mickey and Minnie Mouse costumes and headed to the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. After a few rides, Henry handed Deena a piece of paper that read “I think you forgot there’s another clue; it’s by the bridge next to Cinderella’s castle; oh, what a beautiful view!”

At the castle, a photographer approached Deena and said, “I think you’re looking for this.” He handed her another piece of paper with this message: “Disney is the most magical place filled with laughter. I hope you say yes and we live happily ever after!” When Deena finished reading, she saw Henry on one knee with a ring. A few seconds later his sisters appeared, running toward them screaming and then giving them big hugs.

Next stop for Henry and Deena: the airport, still in costume, for the flight back. Deena’s father picked them up and drove home. Inside were all the couple’s family and friends gathered for a celebration. Deena wrote, “It was the most magical day of my life. I have to look down at my hand to remind myself, it really did happen!”
