Bergen County Care Fair Helps Residents Navigate the System

The first-ever event will be held Sunday, April 23, at the Hasbrouck Heights Hilton Hotel.

Hackensack—A 40-member steering committee of Bergen County community leaders from the public and private sectors officially announced the launch of the First Annual Bergen County Care Fair to take place on Sunday, April 23, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel, 650 Terrace Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights.

The Fair was developed in response to the ever-increasing complexity of the health and support care systems and related public frustration in the face of trying to find the right medical care provider(s), treatments and/or support services needed to deal with a health crisis or chronic physical or mental health problem. Moreover, the Fair seeks to address a finding of the most recent Bergen County health assessment report that cites the need for greater public information about health care providers and social/for-profit support resources available to help county residents.

Karen Tucker, executive director of Adler Aphasia Center in Maywood and a member of the Fair’s steering committee, quoted the Fair’s mission statement in describing the objective of the event, “Recognizing that today’s health care and support systems are a complex maze that many find adds to their suffering, our mission is to provide an annual large-scale Fair that comprehensively showcases both the health care providers and support-service resources that can help all Bergen County residents make the connections they need resulting in better, less costly care and improved wellness for themselves and those they love.”

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco and the Board of Chosen Freeholders helped organize the Fair and will be attending. Operations and promotion of the Fair will be funded by private sponsorship contributions ranging from $500 to $5,000; 34 sponsors have stepped forward to date and the number continues to grow. Expenses will also be paid by smaller fees from exhibitors who showcase at the Fair.

Over 120 exhibitors are expected at the Fair where topical workshops and seminars will also be offered. Admission and parking will be free, Spanish and Korean translators will be available on site and the venue is handicap accessible. Transportation services to and from the Fair will also be provided.
