RPRY Students Attend STEM Conference for Women

Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva’s seventh grade girls went to Princeton last week for the Young Women’s Conference in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The conference described the day as aiming to introduce middle school and high school aged girls to female scientists and engineers and the wide breadth of careers available to them in these fields. The students met prominent female scientists, such as Dr. Aprille Ericsson, a NASA engineer, who spoke to them about the importance of perseverance, reminding them “you never know the pathway that will take you to your goal.” The students participated in hands-on activities and experiments, from using virtual reality in civil engineering, to chemical solutions that change the color of fire. Students Miriam Renna and Sara Goldman described the trip as fun and educational, adding that while they learned a great deal about STEM, they also learned about women’s impacts in these spheres, past and present.
