In the junior division, the Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Charlie Hilbert and Netanel Katz. The Wildcats stormed back in the second period to take a 3-2 lead on goals by Shay Field, Abie Fields and Jeb Fields. The Hawks tied the game in the third on Katz’s second of the night, assisted by Max Shachter and Azaryeh Tiger. Goalies Jonah Orlinsky and Dovie Jacobs were sharp all night, and without their stellar goaltending this might have been an 8-7 game. The game went to sudden death overtime tied at three when playoff MVP Shay Fields snapped a puck from the left wing into the far corner to give the Wildcats a thrilling 4-3 win.
Max Schachter took home the regular season MVP, Charlie Hilbert was named Most Improved Player. Akiva Rotenberg won Breakout Player and Jacob Weiss won the Sportsmanship/Team player award.
In the senior division, the first place Wildcats were facing the Ravens, the only team to beat them during the season. After a scoreless first period owned by goalies Adam Farbowitz and Zachary Feur, the Wildcats struck mid-second as Avi Weiskopf converted an opportunity for a 1-0 lead. That lead was short lived as playoff MVP Zach Levy rushed down the left wing and fired a pass in front that Ian Hanaer tipped into the top corner to tie the score at one. That score would hold until 1:35 left when Zach Levy ripped a laser from halfcourt to give the Ravens a 2-1 lead. Noam Kornwasser stole the puck and scored on breakaway 30 seconds later to seal the 3-1 Ravens win.
A special thank you to Yaakov Faber’s bubbie, Passi Beyowitz, for leading the cheering for the Ravens.
The regular season MVP was Eli Blumenfeld, Most Improved Player was AJ Seplowitz, Breakout Player was Yair Levie and Sportsmanship/Team player went to Jacob Feit.
