Seattle Storms Past Connecticut to Win CMEK Women’s League Championship

“We knew we were going to rely on our outside shots as they have a big presence down low and tonight, the shots went down.” Those were the words of playoff MVP Pearl Magence. Magence, originally from Chicago came to New York for college now lives in Teaneck. She is the director of finance at SAR Academy and High School, has four kids, three of who attend SAR and two who share the love basketball.

Magence was on fire all night as she poured in a team high 17 points, hit every dagger shot when one thought the Sun would make the run. The final score of 47-36, was not indicative of the dominating performance by Seattle as Connecticut never get closer than seven in the second half..

Team leader and league superstar Rachel Stahler played a brilliant floor game and contributed 14 points. Stahler who played at HANC and at Queens College, travels from Far Rockaway. Stahler is a unique talent whom the rest of the league can’t seem to figure out. She had three titles to her credit in five seasons.

Raquel Anidjar, originally from Toronto, who also comes from Far Rockaway, was solid on both ends of the floor and put in some timely points.

Ariella Kravitz was steady as usual. She currently resides in Bergenfield, works as a nurse, has three kids, two of which go to RYNJ

Aliza Black, playing on her first season was ferocious on defense. She lives in Englewood, played high school basketball for Ramaz, has three kids in Moriah and works as a physician assistant.

Captain Bridget Hughes, from Pittsburgh, anchored the post. Hughes played college ball at Carnegie Mellon University.

Kristen Kush of Connecticut led all scorers with 19 in defeat. Teammate Steph Greenspan, a Yeshivat He’Atid parent, played a solid all-around game for the Sun.

Season 15 promises to be the most exciting season yet. Visit CMEK.com or Contact Chad at 201-927-3027 to find out more.
