Young Israel of Fort Lee Celebrates Chai Dinner

(Courtesy of Young Israel of Fort Lee) On Wednesday, June 19, The Young Israel of Fort Lee celebrated its 18th annual dinner attended by record numbers. This event, which is most certainly the highlight of the year, honored three very special people who exemplify why the shul is attracting so many new members.

Many of the Young Israel’s members were active in other shuls before they brought their talents to Fort Lee. It makes for an exciting atmosphere to constantly bring in a renewed spirit of volunteerism as well as innovative ideas to the shul.

The president, Herb Speiser, emphasized how privileged he was to work for a membership that was so wholeheartedly dedicated.

Morah D’Asra Rabbi Zev Goldberg emphasized the selflessness of not only the honorees but the members in general.

Quoting Pirkei Avot, which he teaches throughout the summer with such enthusiasm, “Those who work for the community should do so for the sake of heaven,” he spoke of the reliance on volunteers for any organization to be a success and how this year’s dinner exemplified this teaching.

“Sonja and Gary Nadritch, our guests of honor, are the epitome of a couple who work and sacrifice for the Jewish community,” said the Rabbi. “It seems there is not a day when they are not working or helping out in the shul. Active in the Jewish community of Staten Island, they continue their works of chesed in Fort Lee. Their children living in Teaneck and Englewood is so convenient for coming to Fort Lee.”

The Rabbi also introduced Bernie Raab, honored with the Jack Wimmer Community Service Award. As a former shul president, his leadership and commitment never wavers.
