Beth Shalom Congregation Of Scranton: Spotlight on Sara and Ebi Rowshanshad

(Courtesy of Beth Shalom Cong. of Scranton) My husband and I moved to Scranton, Pennsylvania, with our baby girl in the summer of 2018, when my husband landed a residency spot here. We didn’t know anything about Scranton or that there was even a Jewish community. We were welcomed by members from the Beth Shalom community who made us feel like family. Although my husband’s residency program is not a shomer Shabbos one by definition, they have been accommodating to our needs. Coming from Brooklyn, New York, we found housing in Scranton is extremely affordable. The rental of a three-bedroom apartment is not nearly as expensive as a one-bedroom in New York. Let’s not forget that parking here is a breeze! There’s always parking available everywhere. All shops and shopping centers have huge parking lots, which is such a stress reliever, especially with kids. Scranton is a mix of the out-of-town vibe: quiet, spacious and affordable, which so many yearn for, yet it has the city-life aspect too, with its many activities and attractions. It is so easy to travel back and forth within the tri-state area. We drive in to visit family regularly, and they are able to come to us too. Another perk of living in Scranton is the eruv! I’m so happy to be able to take the kids out on Shabbos to shul, and to friends for meals. Scranton also has a beautiful JCC that offers a variety of wonderful activities for all ages. We are so happy living here, surrounded by amazing people who are now our family.

Come and experience Scranton for yourself. Scranton shabbaton taking place December 13-14. For information, contact [email protected].
