Is It Typical Teen Angst or More Serious?

MetroWest—Parenting teens today presents unique challenges. Is your teen’s use of social media a means of connecting or escaping? How do we help our teens deal with academic and social pressures? How do we get through without being shut out? Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ and Congregation Adath Shalom in collaboration with the Mental Health Association in New Jersey are addressing these issues via a two part parent program taking place from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on March 24 and May 5 at Adath Shalom, 841 Mountain Way in Morris Plains.

The first part of the program, on March 24 will be led by Robyn Krugman, LCSW, Child and Adolescent Services at Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ. This session will cover the teen brain, differences between teen angst and signs of depression or anxiety, challenges of parent and peer relationships, and parenting tips to help parents communicate with and support their children.

Part two of the program on May 5th will be led by NJ Mental Health Players, Mental Health Association in NJ and Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ. Real life scenarios will be acted out with discussions on depression, anxiety, and parent-teen communications.

The programs are free and open to the entire community. Registration is kindly requested. Refreshments will be served. While this is a two part program, those interested in attending can attend one or both events. For more information or to register, please contact Susan Solomon, LCSW, Synagogue Social Worker at Congregation Adath Shalom Synagogue at 973-539-8549 ext. 108 or [email protected].
