Kool Kids Passaic Beats the Winter Blues With Fun Trips

(Courtesy of Kool Kids Passaic) Kool Kids Passaic participants have enjoyed an exciting winter season, complete with a variety of enjoyable trips.

Two recent trips took place on legal holidays, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and, more recently, Presidents’ Day. Vacation days can be challenging for children with special needs and their families, as many children with disabilities thrive on structure and routine, which is naturally altered on vacation days. Joining with peers to take a fun, supervised outing can help lend structure to these days. In January, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Kool Kids Passaic traveled to Staten Island to visit the We Rock the Spectrum Gym, a sensory gym designed for children with disabilities but open to all. The participants enjoyed swinging, climbing, jumping, and ziplining!

On Presidents’ Day, Kool Kids Passaic traveled to Liberty Science Center in Jersey City for a fun afternoon of science! Participants had the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of exhibits and shows highlighting different science topics including animal habitats, germs, states of matter, skyscrapers, and more.

To round out the winter season, Kool Kids Passaic participants also enjoyed some motzei shabbos trips. The Girls Division visited Arts and Creations Pottery Studio in Woodland Park, where they painted ceramics and enjoyed delicious snacks. The older boys recently took an exciting trip to Campgaw Mountain in Mahwah, where they tried snow tubing, many for the first time!

Kool Kids Passaic is grateful for the community support which makes these rewarding programs possible, as well as to the dedicated and caring volunteers who generously give of their time on weekends and vacation days to ensure that each participant has a safe and enjoyable experience.

Kool Kids Passaic offers a variety of ongoing programs for Passaic/Clifton children and young women with complex learning and developmental disabilities. If you know of an individual who would benefit from this programming, please contact [email protected]. Kool Kids Passaic is a volunteer-run organization that depends entirely on community support.
