Kudos to Congressman Gottheimer

Thank you for your article highlighting Congressman Gottheimer’s bipartisan work with Reps Tom Reed (R-NY), Max Rose (D-NY) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and the Problem Solvers Caucus (“Rep. Gottheimer Focuses on Bipartisan Efforts Toward Fighting Terror,” November 7, 2019). To see members of Congress reaching across the aisle to tackle difficult issues like terrorism is heartwarming indeed. With regard to the reference to some people seeing Democrats as being more concerned with environmental issues than with fighting terrorism, the two are not mutually exclusive: It is well-established that drought caused by global warming triggered the Syrian civil war. And both drought in Africa and flooding in places like Bangladesh and Pakistan are causing highly disruptive mass migrations and, in some cases, radicalization of young men unable to farm or find a job. The defense department considers global warming to be a major threat to our national security, and we badly need bipartisan climate solutions. As a new owner of an electric vehicle and an employee of an organization which cares for Israeli victims of terror, I am doing my best to address both situations.
