Petit Chic Caters to Everyone’s Fashion Needs and Budgets

Bergenfield—As the Jewish community expands, vendors have responded in kind to cater to local needs. Supermarkets stock novelty seasonal kosher items; even Amazing Savings is meeting the need of the growing communities. Gone are the days where shoppers need to travel to Monsey and Passaic or, for the very daring, Brooklyn for their Judaic needs. Dassie Fuchs saw this need, and mixed it with her personal eye for fashion and color. Friends always turned to her to find gorgeous clothes on sale, or for how to pair a specific skirt with a style of shirt. She started selling skirts for girls and expanded as her customers requested more.As the name implies, Petit Chic caters to a young clientele from a clothing perspective, but ultimately caters to an entire family in terms of service and convenience. As a mom, Fuchs knows firsthand the necessity of a comfortable shopping environment and delivers that to her clients. Shopping is done by appointment, allowing the client Fuchs’ focus and attention, as well as being able to schedule around everyone’s needs. And that keen sense of style and matching Fuchs’ friends seek out? Definitely a part of the shopping experience as well. The one-on-one experience, rather than putting pressure on a customer, actually eases the shopping trip—customers have found her demeanor helpful and easygoing. “ I value the individual attention I get when I shop here, yet I never feel pressured into buying items I don’t need,” explained one satisfied customer. “Dassie listens to me and listens to my kids and provides a personal shopping experience,” described another customer.Fuchs aims to cater to the community. In addition to girls’ clothing from school dress code, camp wardrobe and Shabbos attire, she has an extensive collection of boys clothing, including slim-fit pants, a variety of colors, dress shirts and sweaters. Clothing that is typically thought of as only available from out-of-the-area retailers is now conveniently located in Bergenfield. She is also willing to work within any budget, actually redirecting customers away from full-price items and toward sale racks when they indicate their preference in that direction.“ I love client feedback and interaction,” exclaimed Fuchs. “ Using Facebook and Instagram to post pictures of merchandise and communicate with clients has really helped me tap into and respond to their needs.” Fuchs has built a strong following of customers and, ironically, people from Monsey and Passaic now come to Petit Chic to do their shopping there. Mothers of older girls have breathed a sigh of relief coming to shop at Petit Chic. Fuchs acts as an intermediary, and rather than have shopping with teens become what one parent referred to as “ an awful experience,” she explained that “Dassie made my daughter feel like a million bucks, while still keeping her clothing age-appropriate.” Another mother of a teenager praised the one-on-one attention: “ By making private appointments, Dassie was able to give my daughter all her attention and truly listened to what my daughter was looking for.”

Fuchs recently added a feature for convenient appointment-booking as well, further facilitating the customer experience. An active community member, Fuchs currently serves as co-president of the RYNJ PTA, and donates to various community events each year—to Chinese auctions, raffles and even bags of clothing to the children’s clothing drive in the summer. Fuchs knows the family dynamic and the challenges that can arise and looks to minimize those challenges through her personalized shopping experience.
