BPY Students Are Explorers

Did you know that you can tell the age of a tree by counting the rings inside the trunk? BPY kindergartners do! They looked at two different cross sections of trees and estimated if they were the same age or a different age. Using the visual clue that the circumference of the two cross sections appeared to be the same, one student estimated that they would be the same age! What a fabulous observation. After counting the rings on both tree sections, they determined that they were one year apart. They also enjoyed a nature walk where they examined different types of leaves, found a squirrel nest, discovered holes created by woodpeckers, saw carved out areas in tree trunks for animals to live in and noticed long scratches on the bark of a tree probably made by a deer.
