Early childhood and lower school division is excited about its newest addition of a sensory hallway. The active hallway will allow students to get up and move, and then re-center, re-energize and re-focus.

A sensory hallway helps to improve self-regulation for children by providing movement breaks that improve attention and focus. Instead of passively walking through the hallway, students are encouraged to jump, balance and hop. Located in the central artery of the JKHA early childhood and lower school wing, the custom sensory path helps the division’s young learners work their gross motor skills in a safe and structured way and then head back to class ready to learn.

JKHA’s sensory path was researched and designed in consultation with an outside occupational therapist. It features colorful images of logs for balancing, lily pads for jumping and animal footprints for bear crawls! The path is a creative and playful way for students to stimulate better attention, strength and stamina.
