JKHA Students Recreate The Menorah in the Mishkan

After sixth graders at JKHA learned in Sefer Bamidbar about the menorah that was in the mishkan, they had the opportunity to create their own drawing of the menorah. From the pesukim, they learned many of the details of the menorah and what it was made out of. The students learned that there are different opinions about what the shape of the branches were on the menorah. Some say the branches were curved while others say they were straight.

Along with their menorah drawing, the students had to write a key to show how they included all the descriptions from the pesukim into their picture. They also watched a short video about a real menorah that was built in Israel by the organization The Temple Institute to fully understand how much work was put into building the menorah.

In their social studies class, students learned about the Arch of Titus in their unit on the Roman Empire. They compared what the menorah looked like on the arch, to the details in the pesukim. Creating their menorahs was an experiential learning opportunity for them to really understand all the specific details that were on the menorah.
