Bruriah Hosts Dor Yeshorim

Elizabeth—On February 3rd, the Jewish Educational Center’s Bruriah High School division hosted Dor Yeshorim, an international genetic screening organization, which aims to prevent the transmission of genetic disorders that have an increased frequency in the Ashkenazi Jewish community.

The Dor Yeshorim system was designed in the early 1980s by an Orthodox rabbi to test young adults before they begin to contemplate marriage. Participants can then use the system to learn their genetic compatibility with potential marital partners.

The confidential testing was offered to Bruriah 11th and 12th graders and was entirely optional. Participating students were assigned private numbers that they will be able to use in the future to check whether they have optimum genetic compatibility with a future mate.
