Moriah Faculty Attend Writing Seminar

On Tuesday, September 1, teachers at The Moriah School in Englewood, New Jersey were treated to a special day of professional learning by Barry Lane, a writing mentor and teacher. Mr. Lane has taught writing at all levels and has written many professional books to help teachers bring joy to the teaching of writing. He founded the Discover Writing literacy program and has worked in all 50 states teaching teachers how to engage and encourage their students to write. Through humor, songs and inspirational stories, he inspires teachers to make writing fun, personalized and open-ended. He presented a plethora of daily activities that promise to keep students motivated and involved. Along with the formal writing requirements within the curriculum, teachers came away with a better sense of how to engage students in writing on a daily basis in a way that promotes self-expression and thinking.
