Ira Miller Named New Tennis Coach at Yeshiva University

Yeshiva University Department of Athletics & Recreation has announced the hiring of Ira Miller as head men’s tennis coach. Miller brings a wealth of tennis experience to the Maccabees, including over 22 years as an NCAA tennis head coach, and17 at the Division I level. His most recent position was at Fairleigh Dickinson University, a Division I program located in nearby Teaneck, NJ. He coached the Knights men’s and women’s programs during three separate stints, including 1985-1988, 1994-1998 and 2005-2012. Miller also served as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Drew University, a Division III institution in Madison, NJ, from 1998 to 2005.

As a college head coach, Miller coached his respective programs to a combined 16 conference championships, including seven Northeast Conference championships with Fairleigh Dickinson’s men’s program (1988, 1996-98, 2007, 2008, and 2012) and two with its women’s program (1987, 2012); five Freedom Conference championships with Drew University’s men (2001-2005), and two with its women (2003-2004). He has earned conference Coach of the Year honors 15 times, including five Freedom Conference men’s tennis awards and one women’s award while with Drew. He has won the Northeast Conference Coach of the Year six times as coach of Fairleigh Dickinson’s men’s team and three times with the women’s team. He was also named the 2012 ITA Northeast Region women’s Coach of the Year. Miller was inducted into Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Hall of Fame in 2004 and his 2001 men’s tennis team at Drew is in that College’s Hall of Fame. In addition to his college coaching experience, Miller serves as tennis director of the Adidas Tennis Camp in Mahwah, NJ.

Director of Athletics, Joe Bednarsh stated, “We are extremely happy to have Ira Miller aboard. Ira has a great track record and I have no doubt he will do a great job with Yeshiva. We feel Ira is the right person to build a more successful program and take us to the top of the Skyline Conference.”
