Noam Knights 7/8 Girls Enjoy Undefeated Season

The 7/8 girls Noam Knights ended their 2019 season on their own terms defeating Ramaz 49-12 and completing the season with a perfect 13-0 record. A decisive 42-24 victory against Moriah in the semi-finals, led them to the championship. For the eighth grade girls, a victory would mean their third consecutive undefeated season. Never playing Ramaz before, they faced off on March 19, at TABC. Not knowing what to expect, the Knights’ nerves were apparent during warmups.

From winning the tip off, Noam took control of the first quarter. After a 6-0 run, Ramaz finally hit their first basket. With Noam dominating the boards and aggressive defense they held Ramaz to a 13-2 first quarter. Starting the second quarter Noam kept the momentum going, by forcing turnovers and staying aggressive on offense. Ramaz showed great determination by trying to keep the pressure on Noam. They managed to force a steal and convert a fast break into a quick two points. With Ramaz back on defense they managed to block a shot and start another fast break, but Noam’s defense was too strong ending the first half 27-6.

The third quarter started and Noam continued to control the game. Ramaz continued to play hard against a strong defense, but unfortunately they couldn’t get their shots to fall. Ramaz finally scored halfway through the third quarter, resulting in a score of 31-8. Ramaz managed to score only one more basket in the third quarter because the Noam defense was too strong. While Ramaz’s defense was good, Noam’s offense dominated, ending the third quarter 44-10. The fourth quarter gave both teams an opportunity to play all team members. In the end, Noam’s experience and talent out played Ramaz and they were victorious with a 49-12 score.

Having a great coach that created an atmosphere that each girl was able to contribute in their own way helped the Noam 7/8 girls not just be victorious but be a true team. Every girl was able to be herself and be part of the big picture. Each grade of the team has what to be proud of. The eighth graders for three undefeated seasons and the seventh graders for 2 undefeated seasons. The girls attribute this to hard work, teamwork and a great mentor.
