Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Azarya Foger

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 14-year-old Azarya Foger as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The eighth grader at Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva (RPRY) is perennial YMSSA All Star and one of the stars of the RPRY eighth grade basketball team. When we asked about Foger, a member of the RPRY family told the JLNJ, “He was on the team throughout middle school always acting with derech eretz on and off the court, at home games and away games.” Azaryah’s former coach, Josh Ostrin echoed the sentiments “Azaryah is a really good kid, a hard worker and a great teammate. I coached him for two years; he is a very worthy Sportstar of the Week.”

Azarya, congratulations on another great season. Who are your role models and why?

My role models are my grandparents for always caring about others before themselves and always trying to help people whenever they can.

My favorite sports memory was our game against Kushner. Everyone on the team played well and when they made a comeback in the fourth I had eight straight points to seal the win and keep us in the playoff race. I finished with 27 points.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

When I’m not playing sports I just like to hang out with friends and play NBA 2K.
