You don’t have to be a fanatic baseball fan to appreciate what a hit CC Sabathia, major league star and starting pitcher for the New York Yankees, made when he recently visited Camp Simcha.
His presence electrified the campers and he was visibly moved as our cancer warriors cheered him on as they presented him with a handmade home plate painted with the New York Yankees logo inscribed with their message “You made us feel better. We hope you feel better.” (Sabathia is currently recuperating from season-ending knee surgery.)
Signing baseballs and jerseys, shaking hands, speaking personally to all, and pitching to campers on Camp Simcha’s baseball field mound before his departure brought delight to the campers.
And in return, his encouraging message to them was to continue to keep up their fight because we all have greatness in us and the capacity to achieve great things.
